Five Seats, Five Votes

We have an astounding 23 candidates for the 5 open seats on our Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council.  Election is tomorrow…in the rain…so what to do?   Well, every candidate I must say, is more than highly qualified and each offers so many unique and valuable traits for our community.  It is extremely tough to choose.   So let me just make it easier for you.

These are the five candidates I think you should vote for and I’ll tell you why:

Matt Wildstein – Matt has been a resident in Porter Ranch for 40 consecutive years and has seen the neighborhood change and grow continuously.  He is the former owner of Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream Shop on Rinaldi and a proud husband and father of 3 beautiful girls.  Matt’s extended tenure in and deep ties to PR gives him a unique insight to the delicate needs of our community.  He plans to focus on school support, public safety, and support for small business owners.

Alex Kim – Alex has lived in PR since 1988, raising two children here and has extensive experience organizing for community empowerment.  While his children were in high school he initiated a movement to engage hundreds of parents to help quell the problem of youth gang activity.  For this he was awarded by then Mayor Richard Riordan for his work.  Alex would make a strong member of the PRNC.

Alan Cohen – Alan came to PR 11 years ago and has no plans of going anywhere.  He has been actively involved with his Sorrento Homeowner’s Association serving on the Architecture/Landscaping, Elections, and Finance Committee.  Currently Alan sits on the HOA Board of Directors as the active treasurer.  He has also been championing traffic safety for his community for several years.  If elected he aims to focus on traffic safety, public safety, monitoring real estate development especially with the new Toll Brothers changeover, and fostering a collaborative spirit amongst the board members.  Alan would make a tremendous contribution to the PRNC.

Cheri Derohanian –  Cheri offers a vast array of invaluable qualities and experiences.  She is the mother of twin daughters at our Castlebay Elementary School and is extremely active in the betterment of the school.  She is a champion for fine arts education and has served on several community boards including the San Fernando Valley Mothers of Multiples Club, and the Van Nuys Sons of Norway Norrona Lodge #50.  She has also been highly involved the current PRNC board and would make a very strong board member if elected.

My 5th pick is, well, ME.  But you’ve heard enough of me from me by now.  Just make sure to come out tomorrow and vote.  And if you need a poncho let me know!
